Mega-edition with loads of news - but many of the galleries hold the full story and loads more pictures...
CJ and I enjoyed a great stop-over in Seattle - a fantastic city to walk around at night, and plenty of tourist attractions to hold the attention. We visited the Space Needle, the crazy Science Fiction museum and Experience Music Project buildings, the famous Pike Place fish market and the monorail. Wicked day!
Check out the Seattle stop-over image gallery
It rained pretty much every day that we were in America - but it didn't stop us visiting our good friend Jon Chester from Rossland, in his hometown of Hood River. Jon very kindly played host to us over the weekend, arranging a BBQ with our friends Jay & Liz, Jerad, Pierce, Kyla and Stacy (who had stayed with us in Rossland).
Jon showed us TimberLine Lodge on Mt.Hood, famous for being the "Overlook Hotel" from Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" - this was one of the high points of the trip for me ;) It was snowing (in October!) when we got to the top, and even though there was a car park out front, and the main entrance was being renovated - it was still instantly recognisable.
Check out the Timberline Lodge image gallery
Halfway between Hood River and Portland is the magical Multnomah Falls, a 620ft waterfall, with a second fall below, situated in the Columbia Gorge off the I-84 interstate highway.
Looking like something out of Lord of the Rings, this is the most stunning waterfall I have seen in my life.

We met up with my friend Aaron in Portland - who I had not seen since travelling through Australia in January 2005.
We spent a lovely couple of days in Portland, a much smaller city than Seattle (and more accessible to the visitor).
I had been looking forward to skating the Parks in Portland, but so far the weather had prevented me from streetboarding. A break in the rain on the last day gave an opportunity to visit a couple of skateparks - and I chose to visit Tigard (recommended by locals) and Newburg skateparks (reputedly one of the best skateparks in the world), at the expense of Burnside, because Burnside would be too crowded...
Well - I gotta say that I came back sorely dissappointed, having found Tigard difficult to skate (skateboarder lines, not so good for streetboarders) and Newburg just too small. Newburg was the better of the two, but I found all the park features to be either VAST or small - with no in-between - dissappointing seeing as Tony Hawk claimed this was one of the best parks he has ever skated...
Really made me appreciate the parks we have back here in the UK...
We returned to Canada to move out of our Whistler accommodation and take a 2-day journey on the Rocky Mountaineer - supposed to be one of the best 10 train journeys in the world. Well, WOW! Two days in the lap of luxury, riding through some of the most stunning scenery in Canada, in a train remeniscent of the Orient Express.
Check out the Rocky Mountaineer image gallery
The Rocky Mountaineer dropped CJ and I in Jasper, where we spent 3 days seeing Jasper, the Columbia Icefields (the last vestige of Ice Age in Canada) and Banff. Jasper is a famous tourist destination in the heart of the Rocky mountains, and the gateway to the unique Columbia Icefield Parkway - with a very different style of mountains to those in either Europe or the coastal BC mountains (Whistler etc).

We returned to Vancouver to stay with our kiwi friends Logan and Boots, in their apartment in the city centre.
Vancouver is a street-skating mecca, home to the famous Vancouver Skate Plaza. Weather was dry - time to skate...
Vancouver Skate Plaza is a provision for skaters, located in the downtown area under the freeways - much like Playstation/Bay66, but with solely street-style stairs, rails and ledges...
I had a good day out, but was supremely rusty due to not hitting any street at all over the last year - but enjoyed the change. Unfortunately, CJ & I had decided to cut our stay short in order to conserve money and aid job-searching back in the UK, so this was my only day out skating in Vancouver.
Vancouver Airport is worth a mention here, due to the atmosphere provided by the native sculptures and artwork to be found throughout the terminal - helps pass the time, and a welcome change from the bland European decor schemes we are used to.
So we returned to the UK - it was a welcome sight as I think we both had mentally come to the end of our travels, and were looking forward to settling somewhere and enjoying the things that make home, home.
I have met back up with Flipsides Adam Walder, and been in touch with the other riders - and am looking to get back into the swing of riding regularly, as soon as things are settled down on the home-front.
I am well chuffed to get back to my car!
I have got it back on the road and upgraded, thanks to a weeks rebuild with my friend Paul from Rover circles - just have a fuelling issue to sort out, and then it will be my furious wagon again!
So with less than a month to go before the Streetboarding Nationals '08 - it time to get some practise in and some media down.
See you all then!

The last couple of weeks have seen us starting to wind down our occupation of Whistler Creekside, and tie up loose ends.
Although streetboarding has had to take a backseat - still taken time out to hit the AirDome to get some big-air training in.
CJ & I are going to Portland and Mt.Hood tomorrow for a week - I'm going to stay in Mt.Hood with Jon Chester, our housemate from Rossland, and will be visiting Timberline Lodge (the Overlook Hotel from the film "The Shining") - cool!
Gonna stay in Portland for 4 days - #1 stop on my list is a visit the legendary Burnside Skatepark! Gonna get some shots and footage for the record - Tour *on*...
CJ & I took a trip out the other side of Pemberton to visit the Meager Creek Hot Springs - geothermally-heated pools accessed by a crazy 50km gravel drive! Some fantastic views, with a relaxing soak to boot - sweet!

Finally I managed to go streetboarding in the legendary Squamish Skatepark - 14,000sq feet of marble smooth concrete, designed by someone who knows what they are doing. I journeyed down with my compatriot Jonny Scully (from NZ'05 & '06) and found a skatepark with enough transition, flatbank, rail and mini packed in to keep everyone happy, and provide endless lines to keep the interest level high.
The snake-run/bowl was a little tight for streetboarders, throwing you back up before you had almost finished dropping in, but the curved shape provided a continuously varying width, which helped alleviate the problem - and had a large vert wall at the end of the elbow. It had loads of blocks of various heights and many different levels and bowled sections to move between - there was so much potential here, it was almost difficult to know where to begin...
We had a good day - apart from being bitten by more mosquitos than I have ever encontered before - honestly, when I say clouds, I mean THICK WITH THEM. Unreal - it got so bad that in the end we legged it - vowing to come back soon!
I have spent most of my time since them streetboarding at the Whistler AirDome. Mentioned briefly in a previous article, this is a fantastic mountain-bike training facility near the Blackcomb Gondola midstation - a bike park consisting on a vast foampit, jumps of various sizes and a huge vert pipe at the back end.
The 30ft drop-in is a scary affair (being designed for bikes not streetboards!), rolling in to the foam pit - so the freestyle riders can practise their tricks and get them nailed, before taking them onto the hill. Unfortunately, all their wood jumps have step-up landings, with nothing of an equivalent size to the foam pit to hit with the streetboard.
That said - it is fantastic to be able to try all my new tricks without the fear of injury - so I'm making the most of it while I'm here...
Our crew went on a long weekend trip to Tofino - the famous surf town on the west coast of Vancouver Island - as we'd heard good things about the town and surrounding area.
After crossing on the ferry from Horseshoe Bay, our convoy drove across the island, through Sproat Lake and Stamp River Provincial Parks - stopping along the way to take in some of the fantastic scenery, before setting up camp in Surfers Junction just outside Ucluelet.
We spent the Saturday Surfing at Wickaninnish Beach - us beginners enjoying the smaller waves at one end, while the more experienced aussie Stranger brothers moved up the beach to the bigger waves and set about riding some large swell. Everyone got up onto their boards and enjoyed the day - so we're looking forward to more surfing back in Bournemouth!
CJ & I joined Sebastian (our snowboarding/wallriding friend from Whistler) on the Sunday for a trip to the Hot Springs Cove in Northern Clayoquot Sound. We spent about an hour whale-watching on the way out, and we very lucky to join a pod of Orca's (Killer Whales) swimming about 20ft away - a very eye-opening experience, and one I cna heartily recommend to anyone who finds themselves here...
Check out the Tofino Trip image gallery
More recently, CJ had heard about a trail leading up to Joffre Lakes - 3 lakes nestling under the Joffre Glacier, about 40kms beyond the Mt.Currie reservation, outside Pemberton, north of Whistler.
Driving out beyond Pemberton, we took a wrong-turn at Mt.Currie (taking us 30kms out of our way!) but soon got on the right road - which took us past the stunning Lillooet Lake, with views like this from the road...
The Joffre Lakes trail wound up from the car park, high in the mountains, for about 5.5km - doesn't sound much, but the trail was very wet, as it had just rained, making the going treacherous - especially as I was (ill-)equipped with trainers not boots...
In the end it took 5hours up and down - bur the weather was beautiful and the views were well-worth the occasional slip and fall...
Check out the Joffre Lakes image gallery
On the way back we stopped in Pemberton, and I saw this flamed-painted Corvette Stingray. What a beautiful car!
Why is it that the Americans have the monopoly on beautiful cars, while we have to put up with such pedestrian designs?
Lastly, a big shout out to CJ - who turned 30 on 12th September, and now understands that 30 is the new 20 ;)
Big up the Bus Party!

Prior to a recent injury, I have been hitting up the launch ramp in the Whistler skatepark - and over the last 6 weeks have put together a collection of streetboarding footage and imagery:
Many thanks to Aaron Rogers for some of these images.
My plans to visit the Squamish skatepark has been put on hold temporarily while my hip heals up - but I shall be travelling there over the next week as the park is one of the best designed I have come across, and with less than 2 months left in Whistler - time is running short.
In the meantime, the respite has given us more time to go mountain biking and visit the nearby lakes.
The many mountain bike trails criss-cross the Whistler Valley, around the lakes that provide such a rich environment for both recreation and commercial use - and figure prominently in the history of the valley. Mountain biking is a great way to see valley, and there are some places that you can only reach via the valley trails...
My hip is on the mend, so I am looking forward to being back streetboarding again soon - and coming back to you with a review of Squamish skatepark...
Until then, sit back & enjoy the movie...

Well I have finally met another streetboarder in North America - it's only taken 7 months!
Mak is only here for a week, but its been great streetboarding with a fellow rider again and- his enthusiasm has prompted me to try different lines and tricks than normal...
The Whistler AirDome is a foampit designed for mountain bikes, so riders can hone their tricks prior to riding the park.
With all wood construction it is the perfect set-up for streetboarding, similar to the 2002 French World Championships launchbox.
With a set-up designed for bikes, the 30ft high drop-in is about as scary as it gets - and the 7ft ramps are only a foot wide, leaving room for no error! I have been using the AirDome to practise my inverted tricks again - it's a great facility to have, and I am looking to use it to learn some new ones before taking them to Whistler skatepark launch ramp...
CJ and I have been looking to make the most of our time here in Whistler, and get out and see the local countryside. To this end we decided to climb "The Chief" - a famous mountain overlooking the nearby town of Squamish, its faces home to some very well known rock-climbing routes.
A 2 hour climb, complete with loads of scrambling and lots of adorable little chipmunks (think half-size little squirrels) brought us to the top of the 1st peak of The Chief - with a fantastic view of Howe Sound and the logging town of Squamish laid out below.
We needed to surrender our US visas, and took the opportunity to visit Vancouver - specifically Stanley Park, a large urban park on the north-west tip of Vancouver.
We visited the Aquarium just as the fire alarm was going off and the fire trucks were pulling up - so photographed the traditionally-carved dolphin statue outside, then took a walk around the sea wall instead. Across the river we could see the north shore docks with a VAST sulphur pile being loaded onto ships...
The last part of the walk encloses the Vancouver marina, with the highrises of the CBD providing a dramatic backdrop. The density and look of the highrise buildings give them an atmosphere very remeniscent of large asian cities - a fact not lost of the city, which has been given the nickname "Hong-couver"..!
I am looking to go back there soon to skate - as the city is street skating heaven...
Our friends Mick and Joe have been discovered a huge tree swing at one of the lakes near us - the upswing reaches about 40ft off the water at full speed. Joe is a very good skier, and used to being inverted - and has started to perform double backflips off this swing into the lake. Very impressive indeed...
Vancouver Island is a large island (slightly smaller than England) off the coast from Vancouver. The capital of BC, Victoria, is located in the very south of the island - and where our australian friend Tom Stranger relocated to a couple of months ago. One of the "must-see" destinations in BC - we decided to pay our pal Tom a visit...
Our good mate Pat - from Rossland - accompanied us for our 3 day excursion, and provided us with hours of laughter while Tom acted as tour guide, showing us the sights.
Victoria has a wonderful harbour, which the public can sail or canoe in, as well as housing the ferry lanes for commercial traffic - but the most distinctive feature are the floatplanes which take off and land every few minutes in the centre of the harbour. An unusual sight...
We explored the town, saw Toms house on the clifftop, met his housemates puppy (the smallest and cutest dog EVER!) and spent some quality time on the beach there. Joe, enjoying his first ever visit to the ocean, dived in and picked a starfish up from the bottom of the seabed - boy, are they weird; both slimy and hard, sticking onto anything they find (including Joes head)...
We had a great time; canoeing through the harbour under the landing planes, eating fantastic breakfasts Victoria-style, seeing the harbour seals up close and generally chilling out in the hot weather. A great weekend with the lads...
Our most recent excursion was back to Vancouver with our friends form our previous house in Creekside, to the PlayLand adventure park. $30 secured entrance to all the rides there, including "The Corkscrew" inverted rollercoaster, the famous 50-year old wooden rollercoaster, and The Hellevator - 4.5G's of skyward acceleration! Wow ;o)
Going to Squamish to skate the park - back soon...
