With Hurricane Hanna by all accounts preparing to bear down on the Carolinas, and projected to hit the Raleigh area at roughly the time we're scheduled to begin our slate of IFFL games, Capital Area Team Sports has taken the precautionary step of postponing all Week One games scheduled for Saturday, September 6.
Games originally scheduled for Saturday will be rescheduled over the course of the season's ensuing weeks, with the revised schedule being made available here on IFFLFootball.com within the next 48-72 hours.
We apologize for any inconveniences this postponement may cause, but the safety of our players is of paramount concern. CATS would rather take preventative measures now than have people injured due to poor field conditions, and/or to have players drive out to Cedar Hills Park only to learn that worsening weather conditions caused a postponement once the day's games had begun.
In an announcement that surprised some, CATS Executive Director D.P. McIntire announced Saturday that he would step down from his role as Commissioner of the Independent Flag Football League, effective on the eighth anniversary of his appointment on January 17, 2009. "Eight years will be enough for me, and it's time for someone with a new, fresh way of doing things to take the reins," explained McIntire, who cited a combination of personal reasons coupled with recent health problems as his reasons for stepping down.
McIntire and the CATS Board of Directors will immediately begin the process of searching for a replacement who would work in conjunction with McIntire in a transitional basis during the Fall 2008 season before taking full control of the league's operations beginning with the Spring 2009 season. And should a replacement not be found? "Then the Board will have to either operate things jointly, or consider shuttering the league," said McIntire, "because no matter what, the Fall 2008 season is my last at the helm."
Despite his announcement McIntire will stay on in his role as CATS Executive Director, "for the foreseeable future unless the Board of Directors sees fit to relieve me of those duties," continuing to serve the organization's now 300-plus members.
WHAT DOES "AMICITIA PER CONTENDO" MEAN?
The slogan adorns our web presence in big bold letters, "Amicitia per Contendo." But what does it mean?
Simply stated, Amicitia per Contendo means "Friendship through Competition," and its an attitude that's pervasive throughout CATS and its over 200 members.
Whether someone plays as a member of our men's softball teams, on the links with our CATS Golf Tour, or as part of our Independent Flag Football League, each participant in a CATS program helps comprise a large family of friends - helping one another on the field in sports, and off it in our lives.
