Another Adidas Viral - Robben’s Magic BootPosted by footynut on December 4th, 2008 What did you think?Posted in: News Tags: adidas viral, Arjen Robben, f50 tunit Another quite strange and pointless viral by Adidas, this time featuring Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben and his receeding hairline, promoting the Adidas f50 Tunit.Popularity: 1% [?]Keano quits CatsPosted by Phil Tomlinson on December 4th, 2008 What did you think?Posted in: News Roy Keane has done what he never did as a player and admitted defeat.Keane threatened it after the weekend’s humilation by Bolton and on Thursday the Irishman decided enough was enough as he and Sunderland parted ways. His comments after the debacle of the 4-1 defeat by Bolton suggested he would walk away if he thought it was in the best interests of the club and considering his ghost writer Eamonn Dunphy’s suggestions this week that Keane ‘had lost the plot’ - the writing was on the wall. The 37-year-old, who was appointed manager at the Stadium of Light in August 2006, leaves the Black Cats struggling in the relegation zone after a string of poor results. He led Sunderland into the Premier League in his first season in charge while his debut year in the top flight resulted in a 15th-placed finish. He has been backed to the hilt by chairman Niall Quinn and spent over £70million but things have not gone according to plan and the former Manchester United star has called it a day.Already failed ex-Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has become the football odds compilers favourite, but his appointment hardly inspires confidence and his disastrous spell on Tyneside will not endear him to the Wearside faithful. The other usual suspects have been mentioned with Alan Curbishley, David O’Leary and Gerard Houllier all short in the betting, but Quinn will certainly have his work cut out trying to find an able replacement.Popularity: 1% [?]No Goal Feast for Spurs But is that a Good Thing?Posted by Richard on December 4th, 2008 What did you think?Posted in: News, Tottenham Hotspur Cup-holders Tottenham broke the spell of victorious Championship sides in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup last night. And just as it seemed all the underdogs were winning, both Watford and Blackburn were knocked out. It was business as usual for Redknapp’s side, and after an early scare, they came back with Pavlychenko’s penalty and a clinical finish for Bent – another to add to his personal growing tally. Solid performance by Spurs but it wasn’t the most riveting affair. From the heights of 4 goal epics with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, Spurs seem to have settled down somewhat, grinding out wins recently, rather than racking up goal counts.Tottenham Hotspur have always been a team equated with large score lines. They’ve scored a lot in the past but conceded a lot too – last season Tottenham scored only one less home goal than big-scorers Man United (46 to their 47), but only finished 11th as they conceded almost equally as many. But recent games show each of their last 5 games have been decided by just a single goal, and Spurs have only conceded 4 (so much for Gomes being an awful blundering keeper). Is this an element of Harry’s game being formulated?A tighter, stricter Tottenham looks to be developing. It may not be as entertaining but they’ll get more results this way and won’t concede as many stupid goals. Center-back Jonathan Woodgate was crowned Carling Cup ‘man of the match’, which just goes to show that a good Tottenham performance is hinging a lot more on quality defence. I think we’ll see less Spurs goal-feasts this season, but maybe that’s a good thing. They’ll start defending like a normal Premier League team does perhaps. So whilst goal-grabbers Spurs weren’t getting the goals at Vicerage Road, Manchester United were slamming them in left, right and centre against Blackburn – Tevez with four!I wish I’d watch that match now.Popularity: 1% [?]Oh, What a Night!Posted by Richard on December 3rd, 2008 What did you think?Posted in: Arsenal, News Burnley fans might need a bit of time to recover from yet another Carling Cup shocker last night. A magnificent win over Arsenal puts them through to the semi-finals.Derby also stunned Stoke last night scoring a controversial late penalty, but didn’t kill their Premiership opposition in quite the same style that Burnley beat Arsenal. Burnley bettered Wenger’s kids all-over, with a goal in each half from McDonald and nothing to celebrate for Arsenal. It’s not like Arsenal didn’t have chances but goalkeeper Brian Yensen was on fire, making six one-on-one stops. Yensen was man of the match in a game where any one of the Burnley players were worthy of the same title.Despite Yensen’s commendable performance Arsenal really should have scored at least a couple of those opportunities. The inexperience of Arsenal’s kids – in a team where only Bentdner and Silverstre weren’t teenagers – showed through, as Wenger remarked, in fragile defence and questionable finishing from strikers.I’m sure Gunners fans have been going on today with excuses that they didn’t care enough about the match to field their first-team and don’t want the ‘Mickey Mouse cup’. But when title hopes are already looking dubious and nothing has been won for nearly five years, I wouldn’t snub any silverware. And when the winning of the Premier League so often comes down to depth of squad, it doesn’t bode well when your B-team doesn’t even get a goal past a Championship side. However, this story is about Burnley and last night it was Burnley’s night. Fans were never quiet, singing a host of chants such as ‘Are you Chelsea in disguise?’ Burnley manager, Owen Coyle, in view of the semi-finals, explained that “whoever we get we will be underdogs so it doesn’t really matter who we get.” And I’m sure he doesn’t care anyway, Burnley will just be appreciative of the semi-final experience. On the back of wins to both Chelsea and Arsenal, anything else now would be a huge, huge bonus.Oh, what a game. Oh, what a night!Popularity: 1% [?]Title Race Blown Wide OpenPosted by Man Utd Devil on December 2nd, 2008 2 Fan PostsPosted in: News It has been a great weekend for both Manchester United and Arsenal who were lagging behind a bit in the race for the Premier League title but Manchester United beat Manchester City, Arsenal beat Chelsea and last night Liverpool drew at home to West Ham and now the title race is between the four teams again. As a Manchester United fan I have been worried a bit lately with the lack goals and the dropped points but we are better in the second half of the season and we still have a game in hand.Arsenal haven’t had the best of weeks what with them having a problem with former captain William Gallas and loosing five matches so far but their win over Chelsea gives them a massive boost.Liverpool had a fantastic chance last night to go three points ahead of Chelsea but they only managed a goalless draw at Anfield which took them only one point ahead of Chelsea.Over the past few seasons Chelsea have been formidable at home (Stamford Bridge) but this season they have lost twice already against Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League and that has been their problem so far.I can see this title race going the distance and hopefully in May it will be Man United at the top of the table. I am fully expecting a close race to the finish and an exciting second part to the season.Popularity: 1% [?]Five officials?Posted by Richard on December 1st, 2008 1 Fan PostPosted in: News Have you ever seen a goal that shouldn’t have been? Have you ever seen a penalty box foul not given? There seems to be a talking-point such as this in most games. But, no more, say the FA.Currently being trialled in Scotland the utilisation of two extra officials standing by the goals at either ends of the pitch. I guess they’d be called goal line assistants? Goal line assistants will come most in handy on any penalty box incidents and communicate with the referee by headset. The idea has been favoured instead of anything like the Hawkeye video interpretation you get in Tennis – it has always been believed this would interfere and slow the game down. Also UEFA General secretary David Taylor explains that “we are not interested in a television game. This is a game for people and to be managed and refereed by people.”This must be the problem though. You can get as many officials as you want to get but there will always be human error involved. And if you get too many officials, conference between officials will slow the game down anyway. As its being trialled apparently pushing and shoving in the box has practically disappeared but I still remain doubtful. Some of these penalty box incidents are simply undecipherable unless replayed several times from different angles. A goal line assistant can only reduce the margin of error. Perhaps errors are doomed to plague football. This I don’t mind though. I quite like scandalous goals in football; it keeps the game feisty and gives something to talk about down the pub. Come on, we all love nothing more to see two teams of players fighting over a decision. Just how the most interesting part of F1is a crash. And video technology is boring, look at tennis now – how could you have a character like John McEnroe to liven things up when every decision is confirmed?Unlawful goals are fun. To sound like a stuffy traditionalist, keep it how it is!But what do you think, would this system work in the Premier League?Popularity: 1% [?]Another Adidas Viral - Emmanuel Adebayor Snake VideoPosted by footynut on December 1st, 2008 1 Fan PostPosted in: Video Tags: adidas viral, emmanuel adebayor Heres another of the latest Adidas viral videos for you to take a look at, although it is pretty tame when compared to other Adidas/Nike adverts. We will bring you the remaining two in the next few days, please contain your excitement until then Popularity: 1% [?]The Gunners Gun Down The BluesPosted by Richard on November 30th, 2008 What did you think?Posted in: Arsenal, Chelsea, News Tags: arsene wenger Arsene Wenger broke out into a big smile when asked if his team won ugly at the end. ‘Yes, a little bit’ he responded and laughed.Ah, now we haven’t seen that kind of contentment from Wenger for a while. After beating Chelsea he truly looked like a relieved man.And you can’t blame him – Arsenal, of late, have had a tough time of it. Everyone’s been talking – the fans, the critics, the pundits, even their own players – so to finally get a win at Stamford Bridge must be like going from Hell to Heaven all in a couple of sweet Van Persie strikes. …click here to read more →Popularity: 1% [?]Page 1 of 16112345»...Last »
