CHARGER NEWS ACC SEASON ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE AT THE PRESTIGIOUS BELVIDERE 2A SECTIONAL!
11/23/2008-
The ACC Boys closed out their 2008 season at the Belvidere 2A Sectional on 11-1-2008. The Charger Boys placed 13th in what was regarded by Coach Kerber as, "The toughest 2A sectional field in the state!" Belvidere North, Sycamore, Crystal Lake Central, Kaneland, Richmond-Burton, and Fenton all advanced teams. ACC split out at 43 seconds from 1-5 and 53 seconds from 1-6! The Chargers finished as follows: Sophomore Jimmy Spencer (49th in 16:50), Max Gilbert - 61st, Dan Kottkamp - 72nd, Manny Sauceda - 91st, John Cisneros - 94th, Garrett McCarthy - 100th and Adam Miller - 147th. Freshmane Alex Duncan, who had been racing well in recent weeks, had taken ill and did not race at the sectional. ACC returns seven athletes in 2009 with top-7 experience and 10 of their top 12. What was interesting about ACC's performance was the fact that they would have projected out to top 3 in the Chicago Jones Sectional! Hopefully, with more training and aspirations to compete at a higher level, good things could be happen for the program on the 2A level. CHARGER NEWS SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST: ACC BOYS ADVANCE OUT OF
STATE'S TOUGHEST 2A REGIONAL! GIRLS RUN WELL!
ACC Cross Country teams knew coming in that they were playing host to the strongest regional in 2A in the state of Illinois. Many coaches and cross country enthusiasts alike have expressed concern over the incompetency of the IHSA when it comes to regional/sectional assignments! With that aside, coaches and spectators alike were treated to two magnificent races! According to Coach Kerber, "If it weren't for 2 days straight of non-stop rain, the times based on the talent gathered here would have been the fastest field ever assembled here for a major meet! Regardless, we had two awesome races here today!"
On the Girls side, 6 of the top 12 ranked teams in the state were sent to the Hurst along with 9 of the top 10 teams advancing either to state or the sectionals in 2007! Leading the way were the #1 ranked Crystal Lake Central team that scorched the talent-laden field with a score of 30! Individual race winner was Maggie Gannon of Burlington Central, posting a 17:54 on a course that was estimated to be 20 seconds slower due to extremely muddy conditions in the forest loop. Other team qualifiers were Burlington Central, Wheaton Academy, Kaneland, and Sycamore. The Lady Chargers placed a strong 7th and were led by rising star freshman Bailey Shemenski in 19:40 and Sophomore Jacquelyn Nagel in 19:41. Amanda Contreras posted a PR of 19:52, Alexis Anthony posted a 20:07, and Natalie Perry a 20:21 to round out the ACC scoring. Consider this on a dry course time projections of 19:20, 19:21, 19:32, 19:47, and 20:01! Pretty awesome for a team that didn't advance. Coach Kerber said, "For competing against schools with larger enrollment levels, that is pretty awesome! With 10 of our top 12 girls returning the future looks bright!"
On the men's side, ACC advanced to the sectionals as a team for the 22nd year in a row against another state-ranked field in 2A! ACC definitely played the role of David vs Goliath in these match ups! ACC was the smallest school in the field with 481 enrollment in contrast to Crystal Lake Central's 1,610 enrollment. The Chargers went out there with a focused effort like they belonged and then some! There were 2 different aspects of this race: the first was that Max Gilbert and Jimmy Spencer came out of the woods leading the ACC pack by a decent margin heading around the lake loop. At the 1.5 mile mark, the ever-improving Manuel Sauceda and Dan Kottkamp led a charge that brought the entire ACC group within about a 3 second split of each other! Sauceda's surge catalyzed the rest of the Chargers who got a second wind and moved around the lake! The race winner was Tyson Kinsley of Sycamore who ran a 15:01, leading the defending state champions to the title. They were followed by Kaneland, Crystal Lake Central, Wheaton Academy, and ACC. ACC had to outduel SCC-rival Wheaton-St. Francis who also ran a great race and beat them by a mere 4 points! The Chargers were led by Max Gilbert in 16:26, Jimmy Spencer in 16:30, Dan Kottkamp (16:36), John Cisneros in 16:49, Manny Sauceda in a PR of 16:50, Freshman Alex Duncan in a PR of 17:19, and Garrett McCarthy in 17:29. Here are some "Kerber-Time" projections on a dry course: 16:06, 16:10, 16:16, 16:29, 16:30, 16:59, and 17:09! Kerber said, "We can still race better at the Belvidere Sectional where Belvidere North, the #1 team in 2A, awaits!" Again, stay tuned as the Chargers go to the next level of racing. CHARGER NEWS ACC, SPENCER, NAGEL BREAK OUT AT AMBOY!
10/14/2008 -
The annual Amboy Columbus Day Invitational certainly didn't disappoint athletes, coaches, or the many spectators who followed the 55 teams competing on Monday! This may have been one of the fastest races and deepest fields in the 38-year meet history!
The day started with the young Charger Boys taking 4th as a team. Manny Sauceda led the way, taking 13th. He was followed by the up-and-coming pack of Max Abens, Adam Miller, and German Arroyo who all placed in the thirties. Rounding out the Charger pack were Arnulfo Olivia, Luis Hizo, and Matt Czerik.
The Lady Charger Varsity Girls were led by Sophomore Jacquelyn Nagel who ran a PR of 18:52 which would translate into about an 18:57 at Oakhurst! Also racing PRs were Fab Freshman Bailey Shemenski, clocking a 19:56, and Amanda Contreras who ran a 20:06! Natalie Perry and Alyssa Shaff rounded out the scoring as the Girls team placed 11th! Jacquelyn dropped over 40 seconds from last years race! OUTSTANDING!
The main intrigue of the day came in the Boys Varsity race as ACC placed 9th while racing exceptionally fast as a group. Leading the way was Super Sophomore Jimmy Spencer ripping a 15:33 in 29th place! According to Coach Kerber, “This was the 3rd fastest time posted on this course by a Charger. Alex Villa posted a 15:08 in 1992, and Jeff Cintron a 15:29 in 1996! If Jimmy continues to race like that, look out in the post season!” Max Gilbert raced well also, running a 16:10 despite taking a nasty shot to the head at the start. This probably limited his race and chances to go sub-16. John Cisneros ran a super 16:12. Coach Kerber believes, “He is definitely the most improved athlete in the last 2 years!” Dan Kottkamp ran 16:27, Garrett McCarthy crossed with a 16:43, Alex Duncan clocked a 17:03, and John Jochum ran a 17:44.
What is the significance here? Check out this data:
The legendary 1989 ACC team that placed 7th at the Class A State Meet ran at the Amboy Sectional that year, running great times. The 1995 team took 3rd at Amboy and later placed 9th at state. The 1999 team also had a great showing at Amboy, taking second. They went on to qualify for state later that month. Also, note the improvement from the 2007 team:

CHARGER NEWS ACC CONTINUES TO ROLL AT THE WHEATON ACADEMY INVITE AND IN THE SCC CONFERENCE!
10/11/2008 -
The ACC Cross Country teams continue to make progress as the season moves on. Such was the case at the recent 15 team Wheaton Academy Invite held on October 4th. The Chargers earned double team titles on the Varsity open levels. The boys placed 6 in the top 11 and were led by race winner German Arroyo, Adam Miller (2nd), John Jochum (5th), Nolan McCue (9th), Max Abens (10th), and Arnulfo Olivia (11th). For the ladies, Sophomore Nicole Bohr took 2nd. She was followed closely by Meghan Kelly, Jessica Nagel who took 5th, Katie Petry who was 7th, and Sonya Steder (12th).
On the Varsity Boys level ACC placed 3rd with a spotty performance from parts of the line-up. Max Gilbert and Jimmy Spencer led the way again; placing 9th and 11th. They were followed by Junior John Cisneros in 13th. Freshamn Alex Duncan made his varsity debut and placed 18th. The "achilles heel" for ACC on this day were Garrett McCarthy and Dan Kottkamp who were battling health problems and running further back than usual. According to Coach Kerber" If Garrett and Dan were feeling 100%, honestly, we could have won the team title." The title went to Sandwich with host Wheaton Academy in 2nd. "We took about a 26 point hit here! However, we feel that both Garrett and Dan will be ready to race at a 100% level at the upcoming 55 team Amboy Invitational. If we can get these guys to race well on the same day they could be a factor in the state series!"
The Varsity Lady Chargers took fourth behind lead runner Jacquelyn Nagel who placed 12th. She was followed by the ever-improving Freshman Bailey Shemenski (14th) and Natalie Perry (15th). Alyssa Shaff was 20th and Freshman Amanda Contreras took 21st to round out the scoring. Coach Kerber said, "One of two things need to happen with this team. Either we find more front strength that can place a couple of runners in the top 10 at these meets, or we tighten the pack more and get the entire pack to move up a little more. That is essential for the state series, especially at the absolutely loaded regional that ACC hosts on October 25th. The girls have the potential and talent to achieve these goals!"
On the dual meet level, the ACC Boys are currently posting a seasonal record of 8-2 (5-2 in the SCC). The Girls are 7-1 (6-1 in the SCC). Both teams had fun during a great workout racing at the legendary Lord's Park in Elgin against the Green Wave of Saint Edward. Withstanding monsoon rain conditions, mud, hills, an overflowing creek, and no bathroom facilities, the Chargers engaged in a spirited workout. The boys took 9 of the top 10 spots and the girls earned the top 10 places!
The ACC tradition of racing continues on Columbus Day against 55 schools comparable to our size on the rolling greens of Shady Oaks Golf Course in Amboy! Stay tuned and be ready to roll! CHARGER NEWS ACC RACES WELL AT PRESTIGIOUS 17TH ANNUAL CHARGER CLASSIC!
10/4/08 -
ACC Boys and Girls recently competed in the 23 team Charger Classic held at the legendary Oakhurst Course on September 27th. This invite featured a blend of strong 3A, 2A, and 1A teams. The Varsity Boys race had 3 individuals go sub-15, led by race winner Andrew Larsen of Marmion Academy. The race also had 21boys run under the 16 minute barrier and 52 go sub-17! According to the ACC coaching staff, it could "Quite possibly considered the fastest boys race in invite history!" On the ladies side, race winner Christine Sliepeka of Oswego hammered a 17:49, 11 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. There were 10 other girls that raced at sub-19 pace and 29 individuals went sub-20 for 3 miles! The Chargers spread their 46 athletes over all 6 races, which included the addition of an open race this year. The Varsity boys placed a strong 6th in the star-studded field and were led by stalwarts Max Gilbert (26th place in 16:09) and Jimmy Spencer (28th in 16:14). Following them were Dan Kottkamp (38th in 16:35), John Cisneros (50th in 16:51) and Garrett McCarthy (60th in 17:15). Once continued improvement and some personnel adjustments are made, expect to see ACC close those gaps and splits from 1-7. This will be essential heading into the state series.
The Frosh-Soph Boys placed 9th and were led by Alex Duncan (18th in 17:33) and German Arroyo who was 40th in 18:33. By adding Jimmy Spencer's finish in the frosh-soph team race, ACC would have placed 5th in the team standings! Adam Miller, Nolan McCue, and our other underclassmen have potential! The Charger pack competing in the inaugural open boys race were led by Manny Sauceda, who ran a personal best of 17:34, along with John Jochum, Matt Hearne, and Alan Maddock.
The Lady Chargers strategically split up their squads for the day. The highlight had to be the Lady Chargers Frosh-Soph team placing a close 2nd to Oswego by a mere 4 points! Leading the way were Jacqueline Nagel (4th in 20:06), the ever improving Freshman Bailey Shemenski was 9th in 20:37, Alexis Anthony took 10th in 20:54, Nicole Bohr was 15th in 21:08, and Amanda Contreras finished in 16th in 21:09. The Girls Varsity raced 4 girls and were led by Alyssa Shaff (41st in 20:30), Natalie Perry (43rd in 20:37), Meghan Kelly (49th in 20:44), and Melissa Lindsay (55th in 21:20). In the open race, ACC was led by Katie Petry who was 3rd in 22:52. Also showing well in their races were Megan Sickle, Jackie Cardona, and Bianca Guzaldo. ALUMNI BRIEF FORMER CHARGER GREATS TEARING IT UP ON THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL!
9/23/08 -
There are quite a few ACC alumni racing this fall on the collegiate level! Three notable former Chargers are Tony Karafiat - NCAA D1 Gonzaga U., Jenny Lindsay at D2 Florida Tech, and Valerie Cintron at Waubonsee CC. These three have been making noticeable contributions to their respective teams and are making names for themselves on the next level! Karafiat, a 2007 ACC grad who led ACC to an 8th place finish at Class A state 2 years ago is under the mentorship of Coach Pat Tyson. For those of you who don't know who Coach Tyson is let's break it down like this: former Oregon great, former training partner and close confidante of the one and only Steve Prefontaine, and certainly considered as one of the greatest distance coaching minds in America! With that being said Coach Tyson has brought in his Oregon system of training and it appears to already be paying major dividends! In a recent Invitational in Seattle, Tony not only raced a PR of 26:33 for 8k, but he did it in a big way by eclipsing his past mark by 1:02 as 6th man for the team. The ACC coaching staff believes that with Tony's outstanding focus and work ethic will lead him to great things in Coach Tyson's program. Coach Kerber said, "The sky is the limit for Tony. Without a doubt he will continue to go to another level!"
Another ACC grad faring well thus far is Jenny Lindsay, Class of 2006. Jenny is currently racing as a strong top 2 runner for D2 Florida Tech. According to the ACC coaches, "Jenny did some amazing things for us in high school in a relatively short amount of time around unnrelated non-running injuries! We always felt that she had an outstanding future in the sport!" Lindsay is proving it by not only being the number 2 runner for the Panthers, but also by racing pretty respectable times. This included a recent performance of 20:21 at their own early season invitational 5k! Coach Kerber was quoted as saying, "The more Jenny trains and races the faster she will be!"
Another familiar face to the ACC running arena is Valerie Cintron who is currently the top runner for Waubonsee Community College. Cintronis currently the ACC record holder in Cross Country in addition to 3 events on the track. She already has other college coaches wondering where she may transfer? She recently won the Waubonsee Invite and has posted top finishes in large meets against 4-year schools! On Mondays you will see her on the ACC track posting 1,000s.
There are ceveral other ACC grads racing on the collegiate level and contributing to their programs. Stacy Alosio is at Benedictine University racing in their top 4. Jorge Carmona and Gina Alosio are also getting it done at Saint Francis University. Sophomore James Sobucki is running well as St. Ambrose's 6th man. Becky Boedewig is currently running top 5 at Aurora University. Richard Buria is competing at Waubonsee Community College as well. However, our biggest story of intrigue is at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville where our very own Jamie Nagel is recovering from a knee injury. It was recently announced by the University that she will be red shirted for the 2008 Cross Country season. Every indication is that when she gets into regular training within their system she will d some great things. Coach Kerber said, "Look out and expect great things from her in the track season with her speed and talent! Jamie has all the talent to thrive in that enviroment."
Good luck to all our alumni. We at ACC wish you continued success. Continue to make us proud! College results for these runners can be found on the alumni tab on the left side. Stay tuned for more in depth news on all our current college athletes as the season progresses. CHARGER NEWS ACC TEAMS RACE WELL AT THE WESTMONT AND EAGLE
INVITATIONAL
9/22/2008 -
The ACC Boys and Girls teams raced well at the Westmont Invitational held on Thursday night as a make up meet from last Saturday's wash out! Even though the meet became a little diluted due to a few teams not returning to compete, the Chargers still fared well! ACC won the Girls Varsity title; the Frosh-Soph title, the Boys Frosh-Soph title and the Varsity Boys placed a close 2nd to host Westmont! Nicole Bohr, Amanda Contreras, Bailey Shemenski, Katie Petry and Jackie Cardona led the frosh-soph girls. The Girls amassed a score of 38 pts to easily outdistance Yorkville. The Lady Chargers won another exciting race defeating Aurora Christian by a 1-point margin yet again. ACC placed 8 in the top 19 led by Jacquelyn Nagel, Natalie Perry, Alison Alosio, Meghan Kelly, Jessica Nagel, Alexis Anthony, Melissa Lindsay, and Alyssa Shaff. The young Charger Men captured their title by a score of 50 and were led by Alex Duncan, German Arroyo, Nolan McCue, Adam Miller, Max Sepulveda, and Max Abens; placing 6 from 5th-16th to seal the victory. The Charger Varsity Boys placed 2nd posting 44 points behind Westmont who scored 39. John Reasor of Westmont won the race followed by ACC's own Jimmy Spencer, Max Gilbert (6th), Dan Kottkamp (7th), Joun Cisneros (12th) and Garrett McCarthy (16th) paced the Chargers who followed up on this race after running some pretty intense workouts earlier in the week.
On Saturday, ACC ran at the friendly confines of Oakhurst, however due to flooding near the half-mile mark; the Eagle Invite ran the 2.8-mile course. Nevertheless, the Chargers had impressive performances! On the girls’ side, Linnea Axelson of Oregon was the race winner. However, ACC was paced by the ever-consistent Jacquelyn Nagel in 5th, Natalie Perry in 7th, and Jessica Nagel in 11th. Meghan Kelly took 12th, and a trio of Chargers (Alexis Anthony, the ever improving Bailey Shemenski, and Alyssa Shaff) took places 15-17. According to ACC coaching staff, "The Girls are making positive progress, but are still no where close to where we think they can be by the end of the year! They are starting to look like a pack team!" No official team scores were kept, however the order would have been Oregon, ACC, AC, Oswego East, and Plano.
The Boys looked very strong with Max Gilbert winning the race in 14:44, followed by Jimmy Spencer 3rd in 14:55. Both efforts transfer into potential sub 16 races for a full 3! Also, Dan Kottkamp placed 11th in 15:24, John Cisneros 12th in 15:31, Garrett McCarthy 15th in 15:51.The surprise of the race was Freshman Alex Duncan who placed 17th in 15:57. According to the coaching staff, "Duncan's emergence is very significant because it provides us with a legitimate 6th man who can run with or near our front pack" Other good races were turned in by Manny Saucedo, German Arroyo, Ben Garcia, Adam Miller, and John Jochum who has been hobbled with a hip problem. Again, no official team scores were kept but, when scored, the order was ACC by 19 points, AC, Oregon, Oswego East, Chicago-Saint Patrick, and Plano. CHARGER NEWS ACC BOYS AND GIRLS RACE WELL AT THE AURORA CITY MEET AND ON TUESDAY AGAINST AC, IC AT THE HURST!
9/14/2008 -
Both Charger teams ran well in the their first Invitational of the 2008 season! Highlighting the day for the Chargers were the Frosh-Soph JV Girls taking the championship by placing 5 in the top 12, and 6 in the top 16! The Lady Chargers were led by the 2-3- finish of Nicole Bohr and Bianca Guzaldo who both posted personal bests! Also jumping on the Charger bandwagon were Bailey Shemenski 9th, Katie Petry 10th, Amanda Contreras 12th, and Sonya Steder in 16th! The rest of the program was very consistent on the day with the other level of teams placing 3rd's! The Varsity Boys were led by the return of senior Max Gilbert (12th in 16:23) and the success of Super Sophomore Jimmy Spencer (14th in 16:35). Also rounding out the Charger pack were Dan Kottkamp, John Cisneros, and Garrett McCarthy. The Varsity Girls placed 3rd, led by Jacquelyn Nagel in 11th (20:05). She was followed by Alison Alosio and Natalie Perry who posted times of 20:41 and 20:42. Rounding out the Lady Chargers scoring were Meghan Kelly, and Alyssa Shaff. On the Frosh-Soph level a pack of Blue and Gold placed 3rd were led by Freshman Alex Duncan, Sophomore German Arroyo, Adam Miller, Manny Sauceda, and Nolan McCue, placing 12th -18th respectively.
On Tuesday, the Chrgers went back to work after a training day of 1000's on the Track against AC, and SCC team IC. The Lady Chargers avenged a 3rd place finish at the City Meet behind AC by defeating a strong Eagles team 33-36. Defending SCC Champ Natalie D'Agostino of IC toured the course in 19:04. The Lady Chargers look like they are slowly starting to round into racing shape led by placing 6 in the top 10 led again by Jacquelyn Nagel, Natalie Perry, Alison Alosio, Alyssa Shaff, Alexis Anthony, and Jessica Nagel. The Charger Men placed 5 in the top 8 and were led by race winner Gilbert in 16:18, Spencer 2nd in 16:25, and Kottkamp 5th in 16:52. Rounding out the Chargers scoring were McCarthy (17:03) and Cisneros (17:04). CHARGER NEWS BOYS SWEEP WESTMONT, TIMOTHY

The ACC Boys and Girls teams survived blistering heat conditions to open their scheduled season racing on the open sun soaked plains of Westmont H.S. The Boys defeated 1A state ranked Westmont by a narrow margin of 31-32 score. Timothy Christian also competed and posted a score of 55. The Lady Chargers can look forward down the road to more help as others on the team round into shape! CHARGER NEWS ACC BOYS AND LADY CHARGERS BATTLE
AT OAKHURST
9/1/2008 -
The ACC Cross Country teams ran an early season unofficial tune-up meet with Aurora Christian on Friday which has become a Charger-Eagle tradition for the past three years. The teams use the 2.0 mile loop distance as a prelude the regular season. Both programs displayed potential talent in all 3 races! The Varsity Boys race was led by Super Sophomre Jimmy Spencer who won in 10:22, followed closely by teammate Junior Dan Kottkamp in 10:30. John Cisneros was 4th in 10:40 and Garrett McCarthy went 11:00 for 6th. John Jochum took 8th in 11:25, with Sophomore Nolan McCue right on his tail (11:30, 9th). The Chargers survived a momentary scare when Senior Max Gilbert, running in the front pack, suffered an ankle strain before the 1 mile mark, and was abruptly pulled off the course by Coach Kerber. The good news is that Gilbert is expected to be back into action for the opening meet on Tuesday against Class 1A power Westmont. Coach Kerber claims that, "When we have everyone racing and healthy we look to have some potential this season! We have been tracking data on this loop since 2002, based on the times run on Friday: 10:14, 10:22, 10:30, 10:31, 10:40,11:08, 11:30, through normal uninterrupted training progression we should be able to have at least 8 guys under 16:40 for 3 miles at the end of the season!"
On the ladies side, ACC, as well as the rest of the field, chased AC Frosh stand-out Serena Olson who won in 12:20. Following her was Junior Natalie Perry in a PR of 12:44 and then following close was AC veteran Kaitlin Bellak and ACC soph Jacquelyn Nagel. Other Chargers in the top 10 were sophomre Allison Alosio, Junior Melissa Lindsay, sophomore Alexis Anthony, and Freshman Jessica Nagel . Kerber stated that, "We have been a little bit depleted on this side of the program with some illness and key girls missing practices; hopefully this is a wake up call for certain individuals. If not, we have some young girls with potential that will step in and do a great job for us!"
In the Boys Frosh-Soph race, freshman stand-out Sam Schuette of Aurora Christian covered the course in 11:02, followed by Mikos Jiminez. A pack of Chargers led by freshman Alex Duncan 11:37, German Arroyo, Manny Sauceda, Arnulfo Olivia, and Max Abens were close behind. CHARGER NEWS ACC Boys, Nagel Impress!
8/22/2008-
The ACC Chargers and Lady Chargers ran their traditional early season 2.0 mile Time Trial at the Hurst on Friday. As the entire program trains towards progressing into race shape, a few things became apparent. The coaching staff was very impressed with the efforts of the boys program this early. Max Gilbert, Jimmy Spencer, and Garrett McCarthy came across with literally a 1 second split in 10:29-10:30! Gilbert returns as last season's no 1, Spencer has gone up 2 levels since last year, and if McCarthy continues to run like that for us look out! According to Coaches Villa and Kerber you can tell Garrett did some serious work this summer! John Cisneros followed closely in 10:47 and Dan Kottkamp in 10:52! Those two are capable of racing close to the other three! If they do look out! Others who impressed were top 7 guys John Jochum (11:21) and Ben Garcia who ran an 11:42 in his first year of Cross Country. Nolan McCue and the ever improving Adam Miller ran 11:49 and 11:51 respectively.
The Lady Chargers had an impressive performance from super sophomore Jacquelyn Nagel in 13:0.2 Natalie Perry went out at a projected sub 12:30 pace but suffered a minor knee bruise and still finished in 13:56, followed closely by fab freshman Jessica Nagel, Alison Alosio, Melissa Lindsay, and Alyssa Shaff. A few key personnel on the Girls Varsity were missing and need to get here! On the lower level top performances were turned in by Alex Duncan, German Arroyo, and Max Abens. For the ladies Katie Petry, Bailey Shemanski, Amanda Contreras, and Megan Sickle looked strong! CHARGER NEWS PRE-SEASON OUTLOOK
8/13/08 -
With the 2008 cross country season officially started, traditional Cross Country power ACC has welcomed in 51 athletes into the fold! Both sides of the program could have very promising season's as they enter their second year in IHSA Class 2A competition!
ACC Men's team returns 6 athletes with top 7 experience led by Top senior Max Gilbert, Gilbert along with super Soph Jimmy Spencer could both eclipse the sub 15:45 marks this season!" according to Charger Head Coach Troy Kerber. "Anyone who does their homework will know about Gilbert and Spencer, however we have a contingent of athletes who have worked hard and improved tremendously!" Juniors Dan Kottkamp and John Cisneros will look to run much closer to the projected top 2, along with Sr Garrett McCarthy who has had an excellent summer, and has looked strong in early season work-outs along with returnee Junior John Jochum! "We envision having a front pack of 2 or 3 and then another pack of 4 following closely." The team goal is to have at least 7 under 16:35 for the Oakhurst course this year!" James Sobucki is the only key Charger loss moving on to the college level!
Top newcomers will be Juniors Ben Garcia, Dan Schlietwiler, Alan Maddock, and top underclassmen Sophomores Nolan McCue, Adam Miller, German Arroyo, Max Abens and Freshmen Alex Duncan, and Max Sepulveda. The question to be answered soon will be where ACC gets routed in 2A? Either the loaded Belvidere or Chicago Sectionals? At Belvidere ACC could be 1 of 7 teams in the mix for 5 spots and a trip to State in Peoria! Top Teams in the state will be there in Belvidere North, Dixon, Yorkville, Kaneland, Richmond-Burton, and Crystal Lake Central. " If we go to Chicago it will be ACC, SCC rival Wheaton-St.Francis, Wheaton Academy, Lemont, and Glenbard South! "Either way the ultimate challenge for us is to sometimes get out of our own way!" Meaning stay healthy, eligible, and focused and we will be tremendously improved from 2007!" It will come down to how bad they all want it!" They have the talent to get things done if they choose!"
The Lady Chargers will unveil another strong team with a slightly different look this year!" ACC had what most considered the strongest team in the history of the Girls program in 2007! A strong 6th place finish at Belvidere would have translated into a 3rd place finish at 1A state in 2007!" Yes, we graduated college bound runners school record holders Valerie Cintron and Jamie Nagel, who Kerber refers to both as stellar runners for us!" However, this years ACC team will boast the return of 7 girls with top 7 experience led by Jr Natalie Perry a converted sprinter who has had an excellent summer training. ''She could be a household name by the end of the year!" She is leading an awesome pack that includes top returning runner Sophomore Jacquelyn Nagel, Alexis Anthony, Senior Alyssa Shaff, top Freshman stand-out Jessica Nagel, who Kerber feels is an excellent talent!, and Sophomore Allison Alosio , Senior Meghan Kelly, Junior Melissa Lindsay, Sophomore Nicole Bohr, Junior Bianca Guzaldo, Sophomore Megan Sickle and Freshmen Amanda Contreras and Bailey Shemanski for the projected top 13! We feel that this team could be the deepest group we have ever had and any of the girls mentioned could do some serious racing for us as well as others!" If we go to Belvidere, look for ACC, Crystal Lake Central, Sycamore, Geneseo, and Rock Island Alleman to do battle! At Chicago, I will say this now it will be a 3 team race between us, Wheaton St. Francis, and Wheaton Academy! We may start a little slow, but if all goes well look out in October!
