We are extremely pleased that Toronto Canada has been selected as the host city for the Championships by the International Dragon Boat Federation. Toronto is one of the hottest cities for dragon boat racing, home of over 20,000 dragon boaters racing in many festivals and regattas throughout the year. Toronto is also a great tourist destination and we expect an attendance of 100,000 people coming to see this exciting Championship in our city. We are thrilled to announce that for the first time in IDBF history, a brand new watercourse is being built for an IDBF Championships. The new Western Beaches Watercourse has been made possible thanks to a total of CAD$23 million in support from the federal, provicial and municipal governments. The creation of this permanent new watercourse fulfills the IDBF's mandate of developing a legacy by providing opportunities to develop and grow the sport of dragon boating for the host City of Toronto and local area.
