Note: No parking along Boathouse Row on Friday, July 4, all day. Kelly Drive will be open on Friday until after 3 pm, but closed for the regatta on Saturday and Sunday. We suggest you park in the Fairmount area and walk to and from Boathouse Row on Friday. Download a parking pass for free parking and unrestricted access at the Canoe Club. Weigh-ins remain at #4, 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Friday and 6:30 to 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Referee's meeting on Friday moved to the Canoe Club. 8 am. Check in at the regatta HQ tent at the Canoe Club to volunteer during the regatta. Please read Update #1 below.

Update #1

73 clubs, 253 races, 900 boats - it's a big one! The regatta schedule - but please read this complete update bulletin first Race number index - a handy cross reference to find your heat, semi or final Parking pass - print it and put it in your car. You must have this to get into the venue on Saturday and Sunday, and depending on arrangements, it may be needed on Friday for Boathouse Row parking (see below). Volunteers - We can use a few volunteers during the regatta. The schedule is built to facilitate competitors also volunteering: Juniors only race on Friday and Saturday, so can help on Sunday. Masters sweep rowers only race on Saturday, so can help on Friday and Sunday. Masters scullers only race on Sunday, so can help on Friday and Saturday. We need: Two additional people in the tower throughout the regatta, a flag person and a timing assistant. No training required. Admin help at the regatta HQ tent. Take people's money, answer questions, process the inevitable masters lineup changes Starters assistants Dockmasters Utility people - Inevitably we need help with emerging issues. People to run quick local errands, etc. Ideal for someone who has 2 to 4 hours between races and wants to pitch in. Contact Clete Graham to sign-up or simply drop by the regatta HQ tent at the Canoe Club and offer your help. We have a special need for experienced motorboat drivers and youth/ stake boat holders. Approximate racing times are follows: Friday 9:00 am -5:00 pm Saturday 8:00 am - 6:00 pm Sunday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Pay rate is $5.00/hr. Both rowers and non-rowers are welcome! Stake boat holders lie on a pontoon-type platform at the starting line and hold the bow of the boat until the referee starts the race. It is a simple task and a great way to work on your tan!! You may work a half day, full day, one, two or all three days!! Please contact Anne Miller or call 610-420-0231. Progressions 2 heats - top three advance to finals. If 2 heats, one with 4 boats and one with 3 boats, top three from first heat, top two from second heat advance 3 heats - top two advance to finals 4 heats - top three advance to semi-finals 6 heats - top two advance to semi-finals We've posted a handy race number index to help you find your race. Masters - If all boats in the race are in the same age category, no handicaps are applied. If age categories are combined, time handicaps are applied. Check event name to see if categories are combined, e.g. Women's Masters Four D/F indicates D and F categories combined. In combined races, wristwatches are awarded to fastest boat after handicaps applied. As always, any line-up changes in a masters boat must be reported to Regatta Headquarters at the Canoe Club at least two hours prior to race time in order to compute the age handicap. John McCorkle race - For the second consecutive year, there are no entrants in the mens 2+. This may be the last year for the world famous John McCorkle race. Parking may be a nightmare along Boathouse Row on Friday. The Philadelphia police have informed us that there will be NO PARKING ALONG BOATHOUSE ROW ON FRIDAY, JULY 4. We're still trying to work out some arrangements, but I am not hopeful. Kelly Drive will be open on Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday for the regatta. You'll need a parking pass to get thru the police barricades at Strawberry Mansion bridge. Download the parking pass and print it. The safest and fairest way to run 253 races in July heat is to keep the regatta on schedule. We will be ruthless in starting races on time and will not hold races for any reason. Races will not be delayed for crews that are late to the line for any reason. Crews should be in their lanes and, for 2000 meter races, locked onto the stake boat two minutes before the start of their race. Bow numbers - It's the only way we can tell who you are as you cross the finish line. Each crew must supply its own bow numbers. Bow numbers will not be provided; however, bow numbers will be available for sale at the Regatta Headquarters tent at the Canoe Club, $12 for a set of 6. WJ2x and W1x - Both events are full and now have late entries on the wait list. If you intend to scratch, please let me know so we can accommodate the late entries. MI4+ - Heats, semis and finals all on Saturday Mens Masters pair - only one entrant. Race cancelled. Changes for 2004 - Let me know if you have any suggestions. We'll add women's junior B 4x and 4+ next year, and put more time between the M2x and M4x. We probably add a women's intermediate 4 and drop the women's open 4. Read this first: Regatta Bulletin - all the rules and regulations and an explanation of the regatta schedule (some changes from last year). Order of Events - 86 events! Something for everybody. In Adobe Acrobat. Friday events Saturday and Sunday events Events sorted alphabetically - you'll need this if you are entering more than one or two boats. Previous year's results: 2002 results 2001 Friday Saturday Sunday 2000 Saturday Sunday 1999 1998: Saturday's results Sunday's results 1997 1996 Masters crews are reminded of the rule requiring them to report any line-up changes in writing not less than 2 hours prior to the start of the race. This allows the regatta committee time to recompute the age handicap and announce it to the other competitors prior to the start of the race. Violators risk disqualification! We'll have a vendor's tent at the Canoe Club again this year. Please support our vendors and make a visit. Buy an official Independence Day Regatta t-shirt!
