The 2009 Derby: Saturday, February 28 New sponsors and yet more awards continue to make the derby a free, community event that says a lot about Nelson and the values of family, fun, friendship and creativity Collingwood Street between Brougham Street and Nile Street Free for spectators and drivers The Trolley Derby is back on for 2009 with a new sponsor, a line up of trophies for winners, a design challenge for 0 – 19 year olds and this, a new website! Thanks to Amon Consulting From Wednesday, 21 September, 2005 until Friday, 14 November 2008, the trolley derby website was generously hosted (for free!) by Jocelyn Amon, the director of Amon Consulting, the Advanced Revelation data migration software experts, based here in Nelson Thanks Jocelyn! The Trolley Derby Email Newsletter Subscribe now to the derby email newsletter mailing list and be amongst the first to know the latest news! We will NEVER give your email address to ANYONE - not even our sponsors Instead, if someone wants to contact you, we will flick YOU an email with THEIR email address so that you have the choice Our last email was sent on 17 November, 2008 - so if you didn't get it, you're not on it New Sponsor  South Canterbury Finance has come on board as the new principal sponsor, bringing an exciting new initiative to raise funds on the day for families facing up to child cancer. This money will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation for use in the Nelson region. New Trophies and the Design Challenge  Derby stalwart Tim Bayley has been a driving force in organising dedicated drivers into a team that has rustled up additional sponsorship that will go into new trophies for individual events and a design challenge. The winners of the design challenge will receive mentoring to realise their dreams in time to be racing in the 2010 Derby. New Forum In keeping with the aim of making the derby a community-driven event (with the participants, spectators and neighbours deciding how the derby is run) we have launched a bulletin-board discussion forum in this website at http://www.derby.co.nz/forums/ - a place for all trolley enthusiasts to share tips, ideas, stories and more Anyone can read the discussions, but to reply to or start new posts you must first register - for the forums, not necessarily for the derby. Grades
The 2009 derby will be essentially the same as in 2008, with the drivers graded according to their year of birth
Any trolley can be registered in the Nippers
drivers born
from 2002 to 2007 inclusive
Each trolley can only be registered in one of the following grades;
Zoomers: for drivers born from 1998 to 2001 inclusive
Sprinters: for drivers born from 1994 to 1997 inclusive
Rockets: for drivers born from 1889 to 1993 inclusive
Any trolley (that passes scrutineering) can have a go in the Grudge Races
If you have a sibling or friend who wants to have a go in your trolley, they are welcome to have a run in a the grudge races
Any trolley can be registered in the Monarch of the Hill
Open to all drivers born from 1889 to 1993 inclusive
Unlike the above grades, the Monarchs race two at a time after a 10m push start... it pays to have strong and speedy friends!
All trolleys are eligible for the Style Meister Awards
