Tuesday, November 25th, 6:30pm at Padonia Elementary School
The 9-10 Lightning Program at Cockeysville currently faces some challenges. Participation in numbers and level of interest is unprecedented and the Board is interested in determining a long term strategy that best meets the needs of all program participants. Our decision to move away from the traditional indoor lacrosse format to the clinic-based approach at Baltimore Lutheran is indicative of our willingness to take a fresh look at how we do things.
As depicted in the survey conducted earlier this year, there are a number of options to consider when deciding the format for the upcoming Spring. We would like to offer the families planning to participate in our program an opportunity to discuss the following formats:
In House Program + option to participate on a Travel team in the Harford County League :
All participants would be assigned to teams based on pre-season evaluations and a draft process designed to provide balanced teams program-wide. The program would include 2 practices a week early in the season moving to 1 practice with a game scheduled for Saturday later in the season.
In House participation is mandatory in order to participate on a Travel Team. Travel teams would be selected based on separate evaluations and teams would be limited to (1) A Team and (1) B Team. Travel team participation would require a commitment to one additional practice and one additional game per week.
In House Program / Travel Team split:
Same as above in terms of in house structure. Travel teams would be selected based on separate evaluations and teams would be limited to (1) A Team and (1) B Team. Travel team players would not be required to participate in the In House program.
Travel Team option:
All participants would be grouped on A, B or C teams based on ability as determined in pre-season evaluations and teams will play in the Harford County League and/or MYLA League. Participants would have 2 practices per week with 1 game but have the potential to play 2 games per week later in the season. Please note: there are limitation on how teams can be entered if participating in the MYLA.
Who Should Attend?
We welcome all parents with boys planning to participate in the program this spring. We would appreciate your attendance and input so that we can move forward with program registration and development as soon as possible.
We strongly encourage any parent interested in coaching either In House or Travel in the Spring to attend.
If your schedule absolutely prohibits you from attending this meeting and you would like to provide some feedback on one of the options above, please feel free to email us your preference and, most importantly, why you feel that way. The more voices heard the better.

The Cockeysville Recreation Council will be hosting a Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Workshop on Thursday, December 4 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Warren Elementary School in the Activities Room.
All Cockeysville Boys Lacrosse Coaches are strongly encouraged to attend!!!
Some of our programs require all coaches to attend a PCA Workshop to be eligible to coach, other programs strongly encourage coach attendance. We greatly appreciate this support and the efforts to enhance our programs for the benefit of all involved, particularly the children.
To those programs who have not been fully supportive, we ask that you do so this year. The Council pays for the PCA relationship to improve our programs but our success is limited when involvement is not high. While it is a tremendous benefit to us that our volunteer coaches help our programs, it is also a privilege to spend that time with our children in a leadership role.
Understanding better how to use sports to increase not only a child's athleticism but also his self esteem and character will make for a better on field or on court experience for everyone. Please strongly encourage or require your coaches to attend.

BCRP will host the 15th annual Boys Lacrosse Clinic on January 31st from 9:00 - 11:00 at Towson University's Burdick Hall.

Doors open promptly at 8:30 and ticket prices are $5.00 for children. Tickets will not be sold on site and must be purchased at the Northern Area Recreation Office (details below). There will also be a coaches clinic held in conjunction with this event. Tickets for the coaches clinic will be $5.00 each.

Tickets purchased by mail must be purchased by January 23, 2009. Walk in ticket sales will end on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Tickets will not be available at the door. This event typically sells out, so don't delay.

Spring registration is temporarily disabled as we are moving to a new website. The website is www.abooma.com/crc and we expect to have registration up and running later this week.
With AboomA there will be many features available to our rec families, one of those features is now you have the ability to pay for your registration fees online via credit card. AboomA offers additional features as well, look for a brief summary of those features soon.
Cockeysville Lacrosse will be moving to the AboomA site over the next several weeks, so please be patient as we build our new webpage's. Until we make the complete move, links will be available back to this website in an effort to keep you up to speed with news and information for the upcoming season.

The Lightning Survey has been completed and the results are as follows:
Traditional Format --
The boys will be divided into equally matched teams and play an in-house schedule... 72 Votes (58%)
MYLA --
MYLA is a travel league comprised of other recreational teams from the Baltimore Metropolitan Area ... 43 Votes (34%)
Pilot Program --
For the spring 2008 season, a one year Pilot Program was instituted wherein boys who played on the Lightning travel A team did not participate in the in-house program... 9 Votes (7%)
HARCO --
The HARCO League, similar to the MYLA, is a travel league comprised of other Recreational teams from the Baltimore Metropolitan Area... 1 Vote (1%)

As we strive to keep the Cockeysville Boys Lacrosse Program the best recreational experience for you and your family, your input is critical in assisting us with the development of program goals and objectives.
