We have been contacted by Country Music Television for a possible show including how to build a racing lawnmower. The show will be based on the book mentioned below ("Cracker Ingenuity: Tips from the Trailer Park for the Chronically Broke") where people will give tips on how to build everything under the sun, without much money. If the show happens, our very own Ohio Mower Racer, Greg Honchell, from Urbana, Ohio, will be featured! We have been contacted for use of our pictures in a book again. If this pans out, we'll keep you posted when it is in print! With all of the coverage that lawnmower racing has been receiving in recent years, it's still amazing how many shocked people there are in the world when they hear about racing lawnmowers! The more coverage the better! ESPN2 continues to rerun the two shows taped Labor Day Weekend 2004 in Mansfield, Ohio. They are also going to be taping new episodes on September 3rd, 2005, at the STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals in Mansfield, Ohio. Check your local listings! A book entitled: "CRACKER INGENUITY: TIPS FROM THE TRAILER PARK FOR THE CHRONICALLY BROKE" by P.T. Elliott and E.M. Lowry, was just released March, 2003, which published some of Trish Potenza's photos in a lawnmower racing article (pages 136-138). Trish is the official photographer for the Ohio Mower Racers and Dewberry Mudboggers. Books are available at Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble Book Stores. Check it out!! THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL TAPED THROUGHOUT THE 2002 SEASON AND ALSO AT THE NATIONALS!! This originally ran in February, 2003. On March 17, 2003 THE MONSTER GARAGE on The Discovery Channel had an episode with a 1990 Ford Mustang being converted into a Monster Mower, complete with flame thrower, drop down blade deck from trunk, and drop down reel blades from the doors!! It also raced (and won) against a commercial mower WHILE MOWING! Pretty cool! PEOPLE MAGAZINE WILL BE HAVING AN ARTICLE REGARDING THE USLMRA NATIONALS EVENT FROM AUGUST 31, 2002 -- CAN YOU BELIEVE WE'RE STILL WAITING TO FIND OUT WHEN THIS WILL BE PUBLISHED!?! Above is our Dewberry Mudboggers Lawnmower Racing Team group photo. We are the first lawnmower racing team doing mud runs, and among many lawnmower racing enthusiasts who travel the U.S. to race on a grass track. Our two groups, The Dewberry Mudboggers and Ohio Mower Racers, have won several National Championships, Regionals, and just love to "kick grass!" We mudbog where we live (in Columbus, Ohio), but we travel to Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and all over Ohio for regionals and exhibitions. A few also travel to Maryland and North Carolina. We purchase old riding lawnmowers from flea markets or wherever we can find an old one, put on a new paint job, fix the engine, and we are on our way!! Most of the Dewberry Mudboggers race lawnmowers that are 20+ years old. (They don't make them like they used to!!) Our group races Cub Cadets, Dynamarks, Murrays, Hondas, Springfields, & MTD's.

On a grass track, our lawnmowers reach speeds of 40-60 MPH. At the Ohio Mower Racers' sanctioned races, there are three classes to participate in (all 16.0 HP and under -- single cylinder). Our lawnmowers are extremely fast, but not as fast as the US Lawn Mower Racing Association's exhibition lawnmower, the DIXIE CHOPPER, which is a commercial-size lawnmower with a helicopter jet engine on it (150 HP) which can mow a football field in 14 minutes!! (And you wondered why it was only for exhibition????) This lawnmower was raced by Tim Allen on the show "HOME IMPROVEMENT" in 1993 (when he raced against Bob Villa). HOT WHEELS now has the collectable Dixie Chopper with Tim Allen for you lawnmower racing fans!! RACING IRON MAIDEN
