The board of directors of Mush with P.R.I.D.E. is aware that the Sled
Dog Care Guidelines are being misinterpreted & misrepresented by
various groups. The guidelines were carefully compiled to
educate and inform our fellow mushers. If while reading these

P.R.I.D.E.?
P.R.I.D.E. stands for Providing Responsible
Information on a Dog’s Environment. The relationship between
sled dogs and humans is one of the oldest bonds of its kind.
Modern sled dog owners are proud of their dogs as canine
athletes that are bred and trained to do what they love: run as
part of a team. Mush with P.R.I.D.E. supports the responsible care
and humane treatment of all dogs and is dedicated to enhancing
the care and treatment of sled dogs in their traditional and
modern uses.Mush with P.R.I.D.E. was established in 1991 as an organization of
mushers who were concerned about the care of sled dogs and
public perceptions of mushing. To address some of these
concerns, P.R.I.D.E. developed sled dog care and equipment
guidelines. We instituted a voluntary kennel inspection program
and created an email list to facilitate communication among dog
mushers whose main concern is treatment and care of sled dogs.
P.R.I.D.E. guidelines have frequently been used by other groups and
agencies when determining responsible dog care and kennel
husbandry standards.
Today Mush with P.R.I.D.E. members are found
throughout the world; nearly half of the P.R.I.D.E. membership
resides in Alaska, but members from the lower 48, Canada,
Norway, and even Jamaica are steadily increasing in numbers.
Spring of 2007, P.R.I.D.E. elected an enthusiastic new
multi-state, international
Board of Directors who are
excited to throw their energy into the P.R.I.D.E. organization.
Some of the topics we hope to address this year (with the
help of our membership) include:
Increase awareness, support, and
membership of Mush with P.R.I.D.E.
Review and revise Guidelines,
develop Race Guidelines
Promote the Voluntary Kennel
Certification program
Address legal and legislative issues
involved with sled dog kennels and care
Help to educate the general public
as well as new mushers, veterinarians, and other people
with dog care interests on the proper care of sled dogs
and responsible kennel husbandry
Who should join Mush with P.R.I.D.E.?
Anyone who cares about sled dogs and mushing is encouraged
to support Mush with P.R.I.D.E. by becoming a member. Current
P.R.I.D.E. members include large competitive kennels, small
recreational teams, skijorers, veterinarians, race giving
organizations, local mushing clubs, equipment providers, and
fans of sled dogs. The support and input from our membership
is what helps direct the P.R.I.D.E. Board of Directors and
establish P.R.I.D.E. as a leading organization promoting
responsible sled dog care and dog-powered sports.
