Dick's Courtroom - An Online Basketball Collection
        
 Welcome!
This site is for those who are basketball lovers and can enjoy a collection
that celebrates basketball history. Within this site you will find a collection
of items I find most personal and most meaningful to a player: their game worn
jersey, warm up or uniform. From the old days of the New York Celtics and the
Philadelphia Sphas to the obscure ABA teams of the 70s (like the Pittsburgh
Condors or the Minnesota Pipers) to present-day stars, you can find them all
here.If you'd like to casually browse through the collection, I recommend checking
out my galleries.
The galleries break down the
collection first by league (NBA and ABA), then by team. To see an enlarged picture
of a jersey in a gallery, simply click on it. If you are looking for a specific
player, check out my listings
which break down the  collection

The Game's Best Players
Several people have asked me who I believe are the best basketball
players of all time by position. I will attempt to do this even though it is
very difficult to compare players that played in different eras:
Small Forward: I believe Larry Bird
is the best small forward that has played the game. Besides being a great shooter,
Larry could pass, rebound and was a tremendous thinker on the court. Runner-ups
would be Dr. J, Elgin Baylor, Rick Barry, and Alex English.
Power Forward: Karl Malone hands down. Karl is
the second leading scorer of all time and possibly could overtake Kareem as
leading scorer. Karl is a strong rebounder, and he can score inside or out.
Moses Malone, Jerry Lucas and Bob Pettit are the runner-ups.
Center: This is the hardest one to evaluate.
I think it is very close between Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
and Hakeem Olajuwon. Bill was a great shot blocker, rebounder and has all the
rings. Wilt set so many offensive records (100 pts in 1 game, averaging over
50 pts. a game in 61/62, etc), led the league in assists one year and was a
huge defensive presence. However, he doesn't have the rings that Bill has, but
Bill played with better players. Kareem is the greatest scorer of all time,
but wasn't the defensive threat that Bill or Wilt were. The Dream could do it
all very well, and like Wilt has a couple rings. Since I can't make up my mind
on the first 3, I"ll give it to The Dream.
Off-Guard: Michael Jordan wins here. Most people
believe he is the greatest basketball player of all-time. ESPN calls him the
greatest athlete of the last 100 years. Michael could do it all, and he worked
hard to get better each year. The Iceman, The Pearl, and Mr. Clutch are my runner-ups.
Point Guard: Oscar Robertson wins this category
easily. The "Big O" averaged a triple double in 61/62 and came very close in
several other years. Oscar could shoot, pass, rebound and play defense. I believe
he is the most complete player of all time. Magic, Pistol Pete, Tiny Archibald,
and Isaiah Thomas are the runner ups.
As a side note: I don't believe Shaq, Vince, The Answer, Tim
Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Kobe have played long enough to warrant nomination
in these categories.
