Ray Rice: May Start Week 10 for Ravens
Sources indicate that Ray Rice may have earned the start for Sunday's game against Houston.Coach John Harbaugh remained noncommittal at Monday's press conference, leaving the possibility open for Rice to unseat starter Willis McGahee. McGahee is still struggling with rib, knee and ankle injuries. "I don't know if we know going into the game," Harbaugh said. "We'll find out who is going to play more based on how we match up against this football team. Certainly, Ray has expanded himself with the things he can do and the confidence he builds in the coaching staff." Regardless of who starts, expect both backs to see significant touchesLabels: Baltimore Ravens, fantasy football, NFL, Ray Rice, Willis McGahee

Cowboys Acquire Roy Williams
The Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions on Tuesday.Since making the Pro Bowl in 2006, his third NFL season, Roy Williams has seen his production decline considerably. The trade would involve multiple draft picks but would not involve the Cowboys' first-round pick, a source told ESPN.com.The Cowboys are also trying to negotitate a long-term deal with Williams before completing the deal. Williams has expressed unhappiness playing for the winless Lions and can become a free agent after the season unless the team places the franchise tag on him.Fantasy Football Impact: Aren't you glad you didn't drop Williams from your fantasy team?Labels: Dallas Cowboys, fantasy football, NFL, Roy Williams

Bengals Add RB Benson
Former Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson signed Tuesday with the Cincinnati Bengals, who needed another runner and were undeterred by two alcohol-related arrests in Texas that prompted the Chicago Bears to let him go.Benson will take the spot of running back DeDe Dorsey, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after hurting his hamstring in a 20-12 loss to Cleveland. Chris Perry is Cincinnati's starting running back.Benson was Chicago's first-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Texas. He started 12 games for the Bears from 2005-07, running for 1,593 yards and 10 touchdowns. He missed five games with an ankle injury last season, but had a career-high 674 yards. Benson was arrested in May on charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest, and again in June on a drunken driving charge in Austin, Texas. Two grand juries in Travis County, Texas, declined to indict Benson on the charges last week, ending the cases.Labels: Cedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals, fantasy football, NFL

Rams Start Green - Sit Bulger
Marc Bulger is out as the St. Louis Rams starting quarterback after throwing only two touchdown passes in three games and will be replaced by 38-year-old Trent Green for Sunday’s game against Buffalo. The benching of the Rams' highest-paid player, announced by coach Scott Linehan in a terse, two-paragraph release on Tuesday, signals just how desperate times have become for the sagging franchise. Linehan is 11-24 in his third season, including 0-3 this year with none of the games competitive.Last week, Linehan was told by new owner Chip Rosenbloom that improvements need to be made or that changes would be forthcoming. This is Linehan's first head coaching job at any level, earned off success as an offensive coordinator with the Dolphins and Vikings. He was a quarterback in college at Idaho. The team said in the release that Linehan would not comment on his decision until after practice Wednesday. The Rams were off Tuesday."Scott made an announcement, and he'll amplify it tomorrow," team spokesman Rick Smith said. The Rams have lost 16 of their past 19 games while getting outscored 116-29. The point total would not have been enough to win any of the first three games, and their mediocre 240-yard total in Sunday’s 37-13 loss at Seattle was still a season best for the league’s lowest-ranked offense.Bulger finished 18-for-31 for 184 yards with one touchdown and an interception on Sunday, his third consecutive game with less than 200 passing yards.Labels: fantasy football, Marc Bulger, NFL, St. Louis Rams, Trent Green

Rams RB Jackson Gets Six-Year Deal and 44 Million
Rams RB Steven Jackson signed a six-year, $44 million contract, ended a 27-day holdout, and was on the field for practice with the St. Louis Rams on Thursday. This is a big relief to fantasy football folks with early draft picks in their league drafts!Coach Scott Linehan, who conducted a month of practices without the centerpiece of the offense, joked that he gave Jackson "a big hug" and then asked for a loan. The 235-pound running back had been entering the final season of a five-year, $7 million deal he signed as a first-round pick in 2004. Linehan said he understood the business end of the game after Jackson got a deal that includes more than $20 million in bonuses and puts him third on the salary scale on the team, trailing only quarterback Marc Bulger and Pace and fifth among NFL running backs.Jackson, 25, said both sides compromised during negotiations that stayed underground and generally cordial. Gregarious by nature, he kept silent publicly while getting frequent text-message updates from teammates and Linehan, and then flew from his home in Las Vegas to St. Louis on Wednesday when the deal was imminentADV: Here at Statleader, we are playing Fantasy Football Commissioner at CBSSports.com. Fantasy Football Draft 2008: Vernon Davis
Fantasy Football Draft 2008: Vernon DavisLast year with the 49ers, Vernon Davis had a quiet 52 receptions for the beleaguered Bay Area offense. That stat was good enough for 9th overall in the NFL for tight ends - and tied for 13th in touchdowns. This year, under the Mike Martz offense, opportunities should further improve. According to Coach Nolan, "He had it 53 times last year and if he can add another 20 or 25 to that it will help us win."If Davis adds even the low end of that spectrum - he will have 70-75 receptions, which could have him rank in the top 5 tight ends in the league in that category.Fantasy Football Draft 2008: Vernon Davis = "Don't call me a sleeper!"Labels: 2008 Draft, fantasy football, NFL, Vernon Davis

Fantasy Football Draft 2008: Laurence Maroney
Fantasy Football Draft 2008: Laurence MaroneyIts a little early to call too many 'shots' - but I'm calling this one now! Laurence Maroney is a wasted first round pick!I don't care how deep your league is - if you are picking Maroney with your first pick, your year is not looking good. Maroney was going to have a great 2007 campaign as a featured back - and he failed beyond calculation. Now, in 2008, we have Sammie Morris AND LaMont Jordan (off waivers from the Raiders) to share touches. This will only diminish the limited points you will see in 2008 from Maroney.Fantasy Football Draft 2008: Laurence Maroney = Big DissapointmentLabels: 2008 Draft, fantasy football, LaMont Jordan, Laurence Maroney

Shockey Trade = Uptick in Value for Brees
The Jeremy Shockey trade that had been rumored since the draft back in April has finally happened. So what does it mean to the Saints from a Fantasy Football standpoint? It means QB Drew Brees just moved up the draft board!Shockey, who will never be confused with the league's elite TE's, is just another target to add to the already respectable list of Reggie Bush and Marques Colston. The Saints had a quality TE last year in Eric Johnson, who caught 48 balls and 2 touchdowns. However, Shockey should be able to improve on those numbers enough to help Brees become a solid top-5 choice in the 2008 Fantasy Draft.Labels: Drew Brees, fantasy football, Jeremy Shockey, New Orleans Saints
