Maybe Meatloaf predicting the feelings of Monster Madness fans when he wrote "Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad". That song title wraps up the wrap up of the most intense monster truck rivalry of 2008. The extreme competition between best friends Amsoil Shock Therapy driver John Zimmer and Bounty Hunter’s Darren Migues came down to the final night of a three show stand in Grande Prairie, Alberta to wind up the current Monster Madness World Tour. Three events, two "three-peats" and one big winner – the fans!!

"Where did everybody go?" It was like a monster truck ghost town in the pits at the Enmax Centre the night before the show in Lethbridge, Alberta. Not a driver, not a crew member, not an Edge Motorsports official in sight. Like they were abducted by aliens, the entire pit area and arena were deserted. Deserted that is, except for the two ‘dirt dogs" who were maneuvering heavy equipment to sculpt 200,000 pound of tacky dirt into a work of art track for the back to back shows the next day.

"I’m gunnin’ for ya'." Was it just the expected comment from the driver of Bounty Hunter when asked about monster truck racing? After all, the truck has a theme of a Wild West vigilante. But the slogan on the truck is "You can run but you can’t hide". So this sound byte seemed different, almost personal.
"He is one of my best friends." Was it just platitudes from the driver of Amsoil Shock Therapy, the 2008 Monster Madness Monster Truck Racing World Champion? Perhaps to ease the tension hanging thick like low hanging rain clouds in the Prince George, British Colombia CN Centre?

 The Rockstar treatment usually means first class all the way. Well, first class is the best overall description of the biggest monster truck show in Canadian history – the 2008 Monster Madness World Finals in Calgary, presented by Stampede Toyota.
Two back to back, full contact motorsports entertainment extravaganzas featuring 14 of the top monster trucks in the world. Two world titles on the line. Two new superstars crowned. And the first time that two top Bigfoot drivers squared off against each other with Dan Runte in the newest #16 Bigfoot facing the defending Monster Madness Champion Rick Long in Bigfoot #15. Perhaps the Calgary Stampede slogan as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” now belongs to Edge Motorsports, at least when fans are talking about monster truck events.
 Those same fans had to know they were in for a wild ride from the first moment they entered the Pit Party on Saturday night. Wide-eyed, they stared at Rockstar – already upside down. Bill Payne had his monster truck placed on its lid to set the tone for the weekend – that he was prepared to do anything to win. Payne turned his truck upside down for real – twice – on that same Saturday night’s Monster Freestyle to back up his wish to win. His score of 26 came within one point of winning Freestyle on Saturday, but the win was an early birthday gift for the Monster Madness points leader Jon Zimmer, driving the T-Maxx truck with a new Amsoil Shock Therapy body. However, the Rockstar Monster Freestyle story doesn’t end there as the big day was the World Finals round on Sunday.
 As a matter of fact, the Rockstar story at the Monster Madness World Finals really began with Monster Truck Racing on Saturday night. The first round brackets were drawn at random. While Rockstar lost in the first round to Dan Runte driving Bigfoot, Rockstar did come back as the fast loser in the Quarter Finals. Other first round action saw Prowler, featuring the cousin of team owner Alan Pezo, Lenny Kilder, downing Jenn Campbell in Monster Moose. Four time Canadian Champion Don Frankish broke in the first turn and his opponent Predator, driven by the legendary Robert Parker for the second time ever, cruised to an easy advancement to the Quarter Finals. Zimmer’s Shock Therapy dominated Dominator, featuring that pit bull of a driver, Kyle Chandler. Last year’s Rookie of the Year, Jurassic Attack’s Kristy Edge couldn’t get the edge on Public Disturbance in a foreshadowing of wins to come for big, bad Brad Campbell. John Killinger wielded the mighty Excalibur to slay Easy Rider and Kevin Koszala. And Rick Long stomped a Bigfoot down on Deal Breaker driven by Teri Olson.
