During stroke play, if a competitor fails to hole out at any hole and does not correct his mistake before he makes a stroke on the next teeing ground or, in the case of the last hole of the round, before he leaves the putting green, he is disqualified." msg[3]="Rule 5 The Ball: The Rules of Golf do not place a limit on the number of balls that can be carried or used during the round. However, The ball must conform to USGA requirements (Rule 5-1) and foreign material, such as lubricants and saliva, must not be applied to a ball for the purpose of changing its playing characteristics (Rule 5-2). Breech of rules 5-1 and 5-2 is Disqualification." msg[4]="Taking Relief: Just because you are entitled to take relief, doesn't mean you have to take relief. Taking the relief may worsen your position, stance, or lie of the ball." msg[5]="Rule 12-2 Identifying your Ball: The responsibility for playing the proper ball rests with the player. Each player should put an identification mark on his ball. If a player has reason to believe a ball is his, he may lift the ball without penalty to identify it. Before lifting the ball, the player must announce his intention to his opponent in match play or his marker or a fellow-competitor in stroke play and mark the position of the ball. He may then lift the ball and identify it provided that he gives his opponent, marker or fellow-competitor an opportunity to observe the lifting and replacement. The ball must not be cleaned beyond the extent necessary for identification when lifted and may not be lifted in a hazard." msg[6]="Rule 20/1: When taking relief under a rule, a player may use any club he has selected for play to measure the club lengths. In some instances, the driver may be used over an iron or wedge." msg[7]="Rule 23 Loose Impediments: Under Rule 23/6.5, a snake is a loose impediment if it is dead; but, is an outside agency of it is live." msg[8]="Rule 8-2a/1: A player may place a club on the ground parallel to the line of play to assist him in aligning his feet properly as long as the player removed the club before playing his stroke. Otherwise, the player incurrs a two stroke penalty." msg[9]="Rule 16 The Putting Green: Rule 16-1d, you cannot test the putting surface during the play of a hole." msg[10]="Faults and Cures: Faults in the setup is the root of most amature golfer's problems." msg[11]="Faults and Cures: Setup should have even weight distribution with knees slightly bent at address." msg[12]="Faults and Cures: Loosen wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, and jaw in setup. Relaxing these areas will create a smoother swing." msg[13]="Faults and Cures: Embarrassing Shots - Top shots are normally a case of pulling up on the ball. The head and eyes come up before the club strikes the ball, resulting in the ball driving into the ground." msg[14]="Faults and Cures: Embarrassing Shots - Sky balls are normally a case of a steep swing or improper weight shift." msg[15]="Faults and Cures: Work on technique and control, swing 80% of what you got and take enough club." msg[16]="Faults and Cures: Slice and Push can be fixed by proper alignment and body turn. Aim slightly left of target, Do not sway, have Full shoulder turn." msg[17]="Alignmen: Do you feel like you are swinging well but your shots are off line? Many people line up with their bodies with the target, this causes right handers to aim about 10 yards right of their targets. It can also cause them to push or pull their shots. Think of a railroad track, the outside rail of the track is your target line and the inside rail is the line your feet should be on. Therfore, being parallel to your target line." msg[18]="Chipping: Play the ball in the back of your stance, let the left hand lead the shot, and hit down on the ball. Don't hurry the shot, nice and smooth. Aim for the ball to hit about 1/3 of the way to the hole and let the ball run out." msg[19]="Putting: Left hand should not break. Hands and arms should be quiet, shoulders should swing the ball. Stand with your eyes over the ball and don't grip the club too tightly." msg[20]="Bunker Play: Be aggressive, make a full swing, open your body and club face slightly, let your left hand break. Think about hitting underneath the ball vice behind the ball." msg[21]="Bunker Play: For short bunker shots, where the pin is close to the edge or the ball is close to the lip, choke down on the club, still swing aggressively almost a 'V' shaped swing, or open the club face more, keep weight on right heel, and swing more to the left." msg[22]="Bunker Rules: If a rock or plank is deemed an integral part of the course by the commitiee, you are not entitled to relief while in a bunker shot. Also, if a loose impedement is in the bunker while your ball is in the bunker, you cannot move the impedement." msg[23]="Bunker Play: For a long bunker shot, where it's 20-40 yrds, use your pitching wedge or 9-iron vice a sand wedge. Also, if using a sand wedge, closing the club face a little and swinging more to the right can be helpful." msg[24]="Bunker Play: Shots from a fairway bunker, grip down on the club about an inch, so take more club (Gripping down on a 5-iron makes it a 6). Play the ball in the middle of your stance and make a normal swing as if you were making the shot off the grass in the fairway. You want to make contact with the ball not the sand in this shot." msg[25]="Bunker Play: The buried lie, if your ball is imbedded in the sand, close the club face, play the ball in the back of your stance, and swing 'chop' down into the sand. Try to leave the club in the sand or not much of a follow through." msg[26]="Unplayable Lie in the Bunker: Under penalty of one stroke, you can drop the ball within 2 club lengths no nearer the hole if the lie is unplayable, like a ball under the lip of a bunker." msg[27]="Rule 25-2 Embedded Ball: If the ball imbeds itself in its own pitch mark in the green, you can pick the ball up, you can clean it, and you can drop the ball as near as possible to the point it imbedded but no nearer to the hole." msg[28]="Rule 26 Water Hazards: Water Hazard (marked with yellow) or Lateral Water Hazard (marked with red). A ball is considered in the hazard when inside the hazard margin, even if it is not in the water. 1 Stroke penalty if a ball is lost in a water hazard." msg[29]="Rule 24-1 Movable Obstructions: If your ball comes to rest against a movable obstruction, mark your ball with a tee or coin and move the obstruction. If your ball moves, you can replace it since you know where the exact spot it was. Move the obstruction, play your ball." msg[30]="Rule 24-2 Immovable Obstructions: Cart path, sprinkler heads, etc., if your ball comes to rest on or against an immovable obstruction, you are entitled to relief if it interferes with your stance, intended swing, or lie of the golf ball; unless, it is an out of bounds stake, fence, wall, or anything considered an integral part of the course." //write todays tip so that the tip number matches with the day document.write(msg[today-1]); Check out "I Live Here" discount shirts!
