McNAUGHTON WINS AGAIN!

Fresh off winning the Alberta Amputee Open tournament in Lacombe July 26th-27th, and then winning the Below Elbow division of the US National Amputee championships in Castle Rock, Colorado August 18 – 21st, John Mc Naughton of Grande Prairie (AASRA Director at Large – Membership) won the 2008 Canadian Amputee National Open golf tournament held at the beautiful Crown Isle Resort, Comox, British Columbia, August 25th -28th.  John won by an impressive 4 strokes over Dan Cox (Wi,USA) and another 4 strokes over Bob Mac Dermott (Ab,Canada)   Congratulations John! Meetings

Support Groups are being held this month in Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Lethbridge Check out Events page for times and locations Support group meetings are held monthly from September to May annually. If you are interested, or know of someone in the above  areas that could benefit from these meetings, please contact the AASRA office at (403) 201-0507. We are more than happy to offer our help. We look forward to hearing from you!   FREE 2008 MEMBERSHIP! WAY TO GO ALBERTA!!

Congratulations to Team Alberta 2008, who won the Inter Provincial Challenge Cup during the Canadian Amputee National event at Crown Isle Resort, BC in August.  Members of the team were John Mc Naughton, Vic Mc Clelland, Shane Westin and Gwen Davies.  The Alberta team’s total net score over the 3 days of competition was 871, beating out Ontario (912) and Quebec/Manitoba (919),   British Columbia – last year’s winner was just 2 points behind (921) and Saskatchewan (979). Passchendaele The movie is set to open in theaters this Oct 17th. There a few of our members who may appear in the hospital scenes. Have a Go at Wheel Chair Sports Check out the link here.   Canadian Paralympic Committee launches a new website The web site will providing details of sport for persons with a disability to learn about the sports best suited to their abilities and interests, and to locate national, provincial, or local sporting associations. 2008 will be an exciting year for the Paralympic movement in Canada. In September we will see our athletes compete in Beijing, and then all eyes will turn to Canada for the lead up to the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler. The CPC plans to use this opportunity to create widespread awareness of Canada’s international Paralympic leadership, and ensure Canadians with a disability continue to be inspired and supported to participate in sport.
