Join us for the 2008 Ontario ParaSport Awards
Paralympics Ontario is pleased to announce that the 2008 Ontario ParaSport Awards will take place Saturday, November 15th at the DoubleTree International Plaza Hotel in Toronto . The annual event celebrates the achievements of athletes with a physical disability throughout the past year as well as lifelong volunteers from the Ontario Amputee and Les Autres Sports Association, Ontario Blind Sports Association, Ontario Cerebral Palsy Sports Association, Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association and Paralympics Ontario .
This years three host communities will be awarded for their tremendous hospitality over the past summer. London and Ottawa will receive awards for hosting their respective regional championships while Variety Village will be recognized for hosting the successful 2008 Ontario ParaSport Summer Games.
Also being presented is the Ron Foster Award. This award was designed to recognize volunteers at the provincial level who have dedicated their time and energy towards the delivery of opportunities for athletes with a physical disability in sport and recreation. This will be the seventeenth time the award has been handed out dating back to 1991 with many great volunteers previously having been acknowledged.
Other awards being presented are the five to twenty-five year volunteer awards, PSO annual awards and Paralympics Ontario annual awards.
Come join us for a night of fun and excitement as we reminisce with old friends and meet new ones. This will be a great opportunity to show gratitude to coaches, officials, volunteers and clubs.

The Ontario Blind Sports Association (OBSA) would like to thank and congratulate the talented athletes who have been nominated for Ontario Cards under the 2008-2009 Quest for Gold Ontario Athlete Assistance Program (OAAP). The athletes nominated were selected using the sport specific selection criteria developed by the Ontario Blind Sports Association, approved by its Board of Directors and applied by the Ontario Blind Sports Association Quest for Gold Committee.
OBSA congratulates these athletes on their successful performances, and their nomination for Quest for Gold OAAP funding.

ONTARIO WOMEN TAKE GOLD AT THE CANADIAN
BLIND SPORT GOALBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 17 – The final day of the Canadian Blind Sports Goalball Championships also proved to be the most thrilling, complete with huge upsets and new champions in both the men’s and women’s divisions. In women’s action, Team Ontario was the best squad today as they defeated both Saskatchewan (by a score of 2-0) and PEI (3 to 1) to win the gold. This is especially impressive given the fact that they entered this morning’s semi-finals ranked last, and had to take the hard road to the top by beating the two provinces who have combined to take the last four women’s titles. In the bronze medal game, Saskatchewan recovered from their stunning semi-final defeat, and rebounded to edge out Team Quebec by a score of 2 to 1. The close scores reflect the competitiveness of the women’s division, and all teams should be proud of the way they represented their Provinces at the event. In men’s action, the Ontario All-Blacks’ incredible 11 year winning streak was halted by Mario Caron and his Quebec squad, as they defeated the All-Blacks in semi-final action by a score of 4 to 3. The combined line-ups of both teams featured five current National Team athletes, who thrilled the crowd with an incredible game, and showcased why Goalball truly is one of the most exciting Paralympic sports. Quebec continued to surge and eventually defeated the seemingly unstoppable Alberta team for the Goal Medal in front of a boisterous crowd of about 75. Quebec had taken an early lead, but the veteran Alberta squad remained composed and made a game of it, with the final score accurately reflecting the intensity of the action as it ended 8 to 5.
