Boules de Pétanque is a French sport
which traces its roots to bowling games played centuries ago in Roman times.
Similar to Italian bocce or British lawn bowling, pétanque is played with
metallic balls on dirt surfaces in village squares throughout France,
especially in le Sud. An enjoyable sport with universal appeal, pétanque
has become yet another of France's pleasurable exports and has attained wide popularity throughout the
world.
