The Individual Championships for Ladies and Men were played from August 18-20th. All matches are being held on the hot courts at the Georgetown Club. Nicolette Fernandes (Guyana) who defeated our own Karen Meakins in four games to win her 3rd straight Ladies title, while five-time National Champion,Shawn Simpson (B'dos), won his first title overseas by defeating Colin Ramasra (T&T) in straight games. The team events (August 21-23) for the Men, Ladies and Veterans are now in progress. Barbados is defending all three titles that were won at home in 2006 and will be going all out to try to repeat!
In the 34th annual National Squash Championships the Veteran's competition was held from May 7-10th and the Individual Championships for Ladies and Men were played from May 13-17th. All matches were played, as usual, at the Barbados Squash Club, Marine Gardens. Please go to the Tournaments section on the left to find out more. Congratulations to all the veteran's champions: Ayoni Bradshaw (L+40); David Spink (M+55); Cliff Nolan (M+50); Craig Archer (M+45); Mark Sealy (M+40) and Mark Gilkes (M+35). Congratulations are also extended to the two Individual Champions (yet again). Karen Meakins won her 8th straight Ladies title, while Shawn Simpson won his 5th Men's crown on the trot. Now it's on to the B'dos Open!
We were so close!! Senior CASA XVI is over and a new CASA Executive is finally in place after the CASA AGM and the CASA Championships team event had to be abandoned for the first time ever due to the passage of Hurricane Dean through the Caribbean last August. Congrats to... Top Barbadian and Caribbean junior Cheri-Ann Parris, the local under-17 and under-19 champion, for her impressive performances in the 25th Caribbean Junior Squash Championships in Tortola, BVI in July 2007 where she collected her fifth consecutive Caribbean junior title. Although only 16 years old at the time, Cheri-Ann stepped up one age group to win the Caribbean U-19 title and then played unbeaten in the #1 U-19 position in the team event.

Playfair Barbados Squash Open deemed a big success!!
At the end of the 2007 Playfair Barbados Squash Open, the general comments from the players were very favourable. Everyone seemed to have a good time and the players were all very grateful for the hospitality of their host families.
Congratulations to the all the winners. The ladies defending champion Karen Meakins (Barbados) was seeded at #2 but once again whipped the top seed and world #96 Carrie Hastings (England) in straight games (for the second time in a week) to claim her record eighth ladies title. In the Men's A division Englishman Mike Bull kept the British flag flying high in the men's final which he won in five games over the top seed Shawn Simpson (Barbados).

The BSRA's veterans events were won by: Elizabeth Johnson (L+45); Sonia Perkins (L+40); Orson Simpson (M+50; Craig Archer (M+45) and Mark Sealy (M+40).
The National Championships for Ladies and Men were won once again by Karen Meakins (for the 7th time in succession) and Shawn Simpson (for the 4th straight year). [N.B. To find out more and to see the tournament draw please click the link below. Tournament progress reports were also posted daily].

Welcome...
A warm welcome to all squash players (and non-players), and a special welcome to overseas visitors who are interested in the fabulous game of squash.
Of course, Barbados is known more for its perfect white beaches, crystal blue waters and everlasting sunshine than for squash, but it is here you'll find a committed and fun-loving bunch of squash enthusiasts who play hard and party equally hard.
Now if you don't know anything about squash, try to imagine two people chasing behind a little black rubber ball traveling at over 100 m.p.h. in a totally enclosed room. Players must be extremely fit, highly coordinated and able to react like a cat - it is indeed a "physical chess game" of sorts.
So, welcome to the official BSRA Website. Hopefully it will get updated more often than you visit. :) But either way, please enjoy!
